What it’s like
This is where many of Pattaya’s long-stay residents live, and the bars follow them: pubs with British food, pool tables and sport, spread out along roads rather than packed into one street. You need a ride between them.
The clubs are the exception. World House, on Third Road, is a 6,000 m² club for touring EDM, house and trance DJs, open 21:00 to 04:00 by Go To Pattaya (June 2026). The Thai pubs around Third Road are where the city’s Thai crowd goes out, with bands, DJs and an MC: the next section has them.
Thai pubs and bands
Mahanakhon, at 63/5 South Pattaya Road, is an open-air pub-bar with three house bands a night on Thursdays to Saturdays, from 19:00, and table concerts. Isan Kan Wela, on Third Road, is a mor lam variety pub open 21:00 to 04:00, with Isan and luk thung singers on concert nights. SIP CLUB, a new pub whose posts are tagged Third Road, opens at 19:00 with a DJ, an MC and a band, and YES Pattaya holds Thai concerts; check its pin, as its listings disagree on the address (their own pages, checked 2 October 2026).
Why it is called the Darkside
Sukhumvit Road divides the city. Locals call everything east of it the Darkside, the far side of Sukhumvit from the beach, by Pattaya.Guide’s May 2026 guide. It grew from the late 1990s as housing estates for Thai families and foreign residents, and Lake Mabprachan, at its heart, is about twenty minutes from Beach Road, depending on traffic.
Pubs by the lake
The pubs around Lake Mabprachan are for people who live nearby. Outback, a sports bar, steakhouse and beer garden, opens at 07:00 and closes at midnight, with football, F1, MotoGP, rugby and UFC on its screens and a play area outside. The Stables, open from mid-morning to midnight, has a pool table and an air-conditioned room. Pattaya.Guide also names My Bar, with lake views, and Pat’s Bar, with draught beer, cider and a pool table.

Getting there and home
Public transport is scarce out here. Baht buses run along Sukhumvit and up some of the main roads, but not around the lake, and ride apps thin out the further east you go (Pattaya.Guide). An app that shows cars in Pattaya does not mean one will come to the lake or Third Road at 04:00, when World House and Isan Kan Wela close. Book the ride back before the last drink, or agree a return with a driver, and don’t drive or ride home after drinking. See getting home.

Can you get a baht bus to the Darkside?
Along Sukhumvit and some main roads, yes, but not around Lake Mabprachan. Use a ride app, and book the ride back early: an app that works in the centre may have no car free out here late at night.
